Yuka

Formed in 2006 YUKA has been a mainstay in the Toronto soul scene, performing for small and large audiences alike. The latest release from Yuka (pronounced “yoo-kah”) is entitled From The Ancients.  There is no mistaking the seven-piece Toronto band’s deep devotion to the organic sounds that made Memphis, Detroit and New Orleans famous.

Hillside Poetry Stage

Just around the corner from Skeleton Park (enter near the corner of Sydenham St & Bay St. or North & Montreal) this adorable little park will feature renowned local poets such as Helen Humphries, Jason Heroux, Armand Ruffo, Sadiqa deMeijer, accompanied by musicians Nathan Lawr, Jenny Whiteley and Fred Penner.  The Hillside Poetry Stage will be hosted by Kingston’s beloved poetry impresario, Bruce Kauffman and co-presented by Novel Idea and Kingston WritersFest.

Orange Alabaster Mushroom

Influenced by the songs and sounds created by garage and psychedelic bands of the mid to late ‘60s, Greg “Grog” Watson set out in 1992 to record his own songs using similar aesthetics, while confined to the limitations of using a portable four-track cassette studio in his bedroom. He named his recording project “The Orange Alabaster Mushroom”, inspired by a cherished paperweight.
